Symmetry
Class 6–7 Maths: symmetry
Colour squares on one side of the mirror line and watch the mirror draw the other half. Make patterns with one or two lines.
Words to know
- Symmetry
- When one half of a shape is the mirror image of the other.
- Line of symmetry
- The fold line where the two halves match.
- Reflection
- A mirror image, the same distance on the other side.
- Rotational symmetry
- A shape that looks the same after turning part of a full turn.

Try at home
Fold a sheet of paper in half, cut a shape along the fold and open it. The fold is the line of symmetry. Try folding twice!
