Ohm's Law

Class 10 Science: electricity (Ohm's law)

Change the voltage and the resistor, read the ammeter and plot your own V-I graph.

Words to know

Current (I)
The flow of electric charge, measured in amperes (A) with an ammeter.
Voltage (V)
The push that drives current, measured in volts (V).
Resistance (R)
How much a component opposes current, measured in ohms (Ω).
Ohm's law
V = I × R: for a fixed resistor, current is proportional to voltage.

Quick check

Answer 3 questions to check what you learned.

1. V = 6 V and R = 12 Ω. What is the current?
2. For a fixed resistor, doubling the voltage makes the current…
3. Resistance is measured in…

Try at home

Look at a phone charger or a bulb box. Find the volts (V), amps (A) or watts (W) printed on it. Power in watts = volts × amps.
